bye bessie you’ll be someone elses problem now
little annoyed i wont be there next week.. i love a good clusterfuck
and this one will be epic
after months of planning next week managements fancy new more efficient way of working goes in to effect
it involves placing nearly everyone on the floor on new jobs (mostly on jobs they either specifically asked not to be put on or ones they’ve never done before)
and it will be largely unsupervised as all the team leads got replaced.
cept their replacements just got pushed back by another month coz 2 days ago management learnt that all the newbies picked to lead need to be trained coz they know nothing
months of planning and all they achieved was a new roster (wich they are pushing through leadership be damned)
*sigh* so much fun ill be missing out on
*update* to increase efficiency and have more of the workday spent actually working management have decided that starting monday we will no longer be taking 15-30 minutes at shift start/end for a shift turnover (you know.. that thing aircraft techs do to make sure no stupid mistakes get made)
instead of taking the time to tell your replacement whats done/what needs doing and whats being wierd today every work station will have a log book wich you are to use to write down anything you think the next guy will need to know
this is going to be awesome!
(hell i cant even read half the guys handwriting)

Ah - I figured it out. The management there isn’t a bunch of idiots - they’re actually anarchists!
Or saboteurs.
Or, more likely, they’re idiot sabotaging anarchists.

Managment sounds inept. I can't quite understand if you became unemployed or not (from past posts I've sort of realized that they need you on a seasonal basis?) But still I hope you find a better place to work...

Without too many specifics, what sort of operation is this?

Mickey Mouse from what I can tell.

Starred for the Bright reference.
Onward and upward, my friend!

You can only be raised to your level of incompetence, managements moto.

That sounds like a bad idea. What if a r eally incompetent person got into a position of global power and authority? We'd all be fugged if that happened!

I hope you find something else very soon mate.
Management are inept in most places at the best of times.

Management’s interpretation of lean/6 sigma
It makes sense to them

Cheers mate
Off to find greener pastures

From the sounds of it, even astroturf would be better than that place.

My place is just as bad or not worse in different ways.
Since the morale has plummeted, we’ve seen so many people leave.
Management say they can’t get new staff because we are over contracted, but also say in the next breathe, we are short on staff every single night.
The other week they said they are recruiting for two new chilled nightshift staff. We thought, yay, finally you dumb f**ks. Then we found out the recruitment was internal. Doh. All departments are losing staff, so we are short everywhere going to replace the staff by taking them from other departments that are ALREADY SHORT STAFFED!!!!!
Rant over, and breathe.

did you get email/phone numbers of colleagues to keep in contact so you can hear how much of a clusterfuck it becomes?

I dunno, Mickey is very efficient at removing money from people’s wallets.

ill be in touch with a couple that i actually like... and a lot of the others live local enough that i’ll probably bump in to someone sooner or later

That seems to be what this management team is doing, too!

I learned a long time ago that management often creates crises to justify their own jobs. Sounds like the situation here.
Good luck with the search!
![]() 03/01/2019 at 09:42 |

cheers mate we’ll see how we go :)
a lot of this situation is because management wont admit that maybe their idea is stupid and are going to keep pushing it through till they find a way to blame it all on the techs....
![]() 03/01/2019 at 09:48 |
|
You’ll be fine - good techs are like gold.
I always found a huge difference between people in management that had worked in front line jobs. Twenty-somethings with a fresh MBA don’t know $%$# about @#$$, they just think they do
. Somebody that’s worked front-line customer service, or turned a wrench to get where they are
is always the best manager.

funnilly enough about 80% of management was 20somes and the rest are nearing retirement and have grown roots at the their desks
i dont think any of them ever worked the floor (even the engineers havent..but at least they know what they’re doing... tho.. they do tend to get carried away with engineering for the sake of engineering... added complexity for the win woohoo!)
anyhoo.. cheers again
heres to brand new challenges :)

This type of thing drives me bonkers.
Fundamentally l ean and 6 s igma are tools that help institutionalize (and add some - sometimes fake - math to) common sense and good intuition. Even though I role my eyes at consultants, summits and seminars, the ideas are sound.
BUT... too often executives use them as a way to implement their own agendas. They’re then shocked when things don’t work, and their stink of failure makes it harder for sincere workers and managers to truly go lean and implement a solid quality system .
Funny anecdote: After a lot of analysis, a place I used to work increased the shift overlap (fabrication and assembly work), and provided a script of things that should be discussed between the two shifts. The “lost” time at the overlap was more than made up by a reduction in mistakes, rework and rejects.

*rimshot*
![]() 03/01/2019 at 10:17 |

yeah that overlap saved lots of time but management currently sees it as a bunch of paid techs standing around yapping when they should be working so it will be gone as of next week
welp.. not my problem anymore :)

I worked somewhere that we were legally required to keep a log of everything that happened during the shift. It was nice to have but by no means actually enough to get a feel of everything that was going on. Especially since one guy’s idea of an entry was “performed all tasks and sampling as required by my position; answered calls that came in.”
![]() 03/01/2019 at 10:43 |
|
yeah... i fully expect some of the guys to leave entries like worked for 8 hours no problems
regardless of wether they had problems or not at that

I really enjoyed Bright. The Bastille song montage where will smith blew away the crooked cops was a little weird and somewhat funny, but I liked it.

Putting it in writing is good.
Of course, now it will take 30 minutes to write it all down. (Hint hint.)
![]() 03/01/2019 at 12:08 |

hahaha most likely
but knowing the guys... half the writing will be stuff like worked 8 hours no problems good luck
at least one of them doesnt know the language well enough to leave notes people would understand

I enjoyed it too. I thought it left a bit on the table and could have been better plot-wise, but I liked the acting.

leave it in some inreadable scrawl
